ANA Legal Affairs Committee Meeting

The States Step In: Advertising Law and Consumer Protection Enforcement Beyond the FTC

Venable partners Barry Benjamin and Melissa Landau Steinman will be speaking at the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) Legal Affairs Committee Meeting. The discussion, “The States Step In: Advertising Law and Consumer Protection Enforcement Beyond the FTC,” will take place virtually on September 30, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Within the past 18 months, as federal enforcement priorities have shifted, state and local regulators have assumed a greater role in defining the advertising and marketing regulatory landscape. The session will focus primarily on newly enacted state statutes and enforcement initiatives, identify commonalities across jurisdictions, and examine the impact these developments will have on nationwide advertising compliance strategies. They will also discuss recent advancements in state regulatory frameworks governing advertising and consumer protection, key compliance risks, and recommended approaches for advising clients and developing compliant marketing programs in complex state-driven enforcement areas.
