On 22 May 2017, the Supreme Court of the United States held that 28 U.S.C. §1400(b), known as the “patent venue statute,” limits the “residence” of a domestic corporation to the state of incorporation for purposes of personal jurisdiction. Courts and lawyers alike have since been working to determine the effects of TC Heartland on deciding venue in patent law cases.
