Sharoni Finkelstein is Venable’s West Coast brand protection lead. Sharoni’s practice focuses on global brand protection and enforcement, counseling clients on how to secure, protect, and police their trademark rights. She represents clients in federal court, before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), and in Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution (UDRP) proceedings. Sharoni manages high-volume enforcement programs, sending cease and desist letters, negotiating complex settlements in trademark infringement matters, and handling infringement matters on social media and other Internet platforms, including through the use of various takedown proceedings.

Sharoni also counsels clients with U.S. and international trademark portfolios, and manages global trademark portfolios for multinational companies. She performs domestic and international trademark clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and portfolio management; and advises clients on proper trademark use.

Representative Matters

  • Represents global brands in the entertainment, toy, human resources, and financial services industries (among others) in high-volume enforcement programs involving dozens of trademark infringements
  • Represented one of the largest privately owned national chains of fitness centers in multiple trademark enforcement actions across the United States 
  • Represented Francis Ford Coppola Industries (FFC Industries) in a lawsuit against Coppola Foods Limited, a London-based food company, for trademark infringement regarding its intent to sell a line of COPPOLA-branded Italian food products in the United States. Obtained a nationwide permanent injunction barring the defendant from selling any COPPOLA-branded products in the United States (GMYL L.P. [Francis Ford Coppola Industries] v. Ernesto Coppola and Coppola Foods Limited, N.D. Cal.)
  • Represented FFC Industries against Peter Coppola, a New York-based hair stylist and salon owner, in a trademark opposition proceeding before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to prevent registration of the COPPOLA mark for hair care products (GMYL L.P. [Francis Ford Coppola Industries] v. Peter Coppola Beauty LLC, TTAB)
