Kent Meaghan

Meaghan Kent is a seasoned intellectual property (IP) litigator and counselor who advises media, consumer product, and technology companies on IP protection, risks, and claims, with a particular focus on issues at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and copyright. Meaghan serves as the chair of Venable’s AI Solutions Hub, leading the firm’s multidisciplinary team that is responsible for strategy and implementation of AI governance, compliance, and innovation. She counsels clients on the development, use, and protection of IP portfolios—including registration, licensing, clearance, and fair use analysis—especially as they relate to emerging technologies and generative AI applications.

Meaghan regularly advises companies developing or deploying AI systems and provides strategic counseling on AI policy development, data licensing, generative model training, and compliance with emerging AI legislation and regulations.

She frequently advises online content providers on intermediary liability and user-generated content issues, including the protections offered by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the Communications Decency Act, and the Take It Down Act, and on the legal and reputational risks associated with linking, sharing, distributing, embedding, moderating, and aggregating online content.

A skilled advocate, Meaghan represents clients in a wide array of IP litigation, including complex copyright, trademark, right of publicity, and related disputes in federal court. She has extensive experience in bench and jury trials and appeals, and in arbitration and administrative proceedings. She also assists clients with online brand protection, cyberpiracy, and domain name enforcement, including UDRP proceedings, keyword advertising, and publicity matters involving social media.
