Venable partner Stu Ingis was featured in a November 7, 2011 MSNBC/Reuters article on new data collection principles put in place by the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) that will give consumers more control over the collection and use of their web viewing information.
Commenting on the new principles, Ingis, who serves as general counsel for DAA, said, “This hopefully will give consumers confidence that, if they want to limit the collection and use of data for a broader set of purposes, that choice will now exist.” Ingis added that the new guidelines would require industry investment saying, “Companies across the board will have to ensure that their systems are set up to know how data is being used and that choices are being honored.” Noting that companies who do not follow the new guidelines could be reported to the FTC and face fines, Ingis added, “Companies don't want to be held out as not adhering to reputable practices.”
