Venable senior partner and past chair Ben Civiletti was featured in the April 24, 2012 edition of Legal Bisnow speaking on a number of high-profile legal issues at the ABA Litigation Section's annual conference on April 19. Civiletti, a former U.S. Attorney General, was joined by former Attorneys General Michael Mukasey, Alberto Gonzales, and Dick Thornburgh as a featured speaker at the conference.
Speaking on immigration, Civiletti “called for a temporary working program to provide Latin Americans renewable passes to work in the US and send money back home.” In addition, Civiletti “also suggested the US work with Mexico to create opportunities there.” Civiletti also called President Obama’s use of drones for targeted killings “very troublesome.” On a lighter note, Legal Bisnow said they “see a bit of Clint Eastwood in Civiletti” noting that “he lives the exciting life of an action star, with AG cases including arguing on behalf of US captives before the ICJ during the Iran Hostage Crisis.”
