Washington, DC – September 17, 2014 – Venable LLP, one of Washington’s premier firms, has announced that it will move its Washington, D.C. headquarters offices to a newly constructed office building at 600 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, with move-in to occur during the first quarter of 2017.

“We are very excited about this move. This new location will keep us right in the heart of DC’s most vibrant area, easily accessible to our clients and professionals,” said Brian Schwalb, the firm’s Vice Chair, who helped negotiate the lease. “Working with Gould Property Company and Oxford Properties we will build out the new building in ways that are efficient, comfortable and flexible places for our clients, attorneys and staff. The firm has thrived for over a century on the tenets of collaboration and team work to provide value to clients. Our new space will reflect these core principles, and enhance our ability to serve our clients’ needs at the highest level.”

Schwalb also reinforced Venable’s ongoing commitment to the City of Washington and to the burgeoning Penn Quarter neighborhood. “Venable was the first law firm to commit to the then-nascent Seventh Street corridor, and now the neighborhood is one of the most successful and vibrant in the City. In moving to a new building just a couple blocks from our current home, we are committed to contributing to the continued success of this business district.”

Longtime commercial real estate advisors Aaron Katz, Mike Shuler and Pat Nalls with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented Venable in the site selection process and negotiation of the transaction.

The firm will occupy approximately 245,000 square feet, comprising five full floors in the newly constructed building, and will have additional space on two other adjoining floors, as well as concourse space and a ground level reception area. The Venable space, designed by Alliance Architecture, will have attractive vistas, a clean, light, open and modern working area, a cafeteria, multiple terraces for events, and a two story multi-purpose room. There will also be a bocce court on the roof, so that the firm can continue its tradition of friendly, albeit competitive, bocce tournaments.

Venable’s Washington D.C. office currently has approximately 400 lawyers and staff.  “Our new space will allow us to continue to grow,” noted Schwalb.

The property is located near both the Gallery Place/Chinatown and Mt. Vernon metro stations. There will be on-site parking and a fitness center in the building, as well as a first-class restaurant.
