Washington, DC - June 24, 2015 – Venable's Intellectual Property practice and attorneys were recognized for being among the most recommended in the fourth edition of IAM Patent 1000 2015 – The World's Leading Patent Professionals. In the DC Metro Area, Venable was recommended for both Prosecution and Transactions. Additionally, ten attorneys – Frank C. Cimino, Jr., William D. Coston, Nora E. Garrote, Frank M. Gasparo, Michael A. Gollin, Toni-Junell Herbert, James E. Nelson, William T. Russell, Michael A. Sartori, and Megan S. Woodworth – from the firm's Washington, DC, New York, and San Francisco offices were also recommended.

In its DC Metro Area recommendations, IAM Patent 1000 singled out "full service" Venable for its "fully formed prosecution, litigation and licensing practices," adding, "its advice is always prescient and holistic, and imbued with a commercial sensibility." It also noted the recent additions earlier this year of litigators Frank Cimino, a "top-class, hardworking, hard-nosed and client-focused advocate, with exceptional technological understanding," and "up-and-comer" Megan Woodworth. William Coston, Chair of Venable's IP Division, rounded out the Litigation write-up and was called "the relationship lead for blue-chip…institutions..."

In its Prosecution editorial for the DC Metro Area, IAM Patent 1000 said Venable "exhibit[s] superior performance and technical understanding" while "keeping lines of communication open at all hours." Individually, Michael Gollin was commended for his skillful management of worldwide portfolios, and sources said Michael Sartori "responds to requests rapidly and promptly takes care of business. He is always looking for ways to better look after clients, and his positive and proactive attitude is most appreciated."

On the Transactions side, Nora Garrote is praised for "her patent expertise crucial in making sure that sufficient protection is in place throughout a software development cycle," and Toni-Junell Herbert "excels at bringing billion-dollar strategic acquisitions in the pharmaceutical industry to close." Sources say William Russell "takes a partnerial approach to negotiations, which is crucial when you're using the same vendors frequently, and his tough but fair, and practical, approach is great for clients in the long run. His evaluation of issues is finely judged."

In California, James Nelson is recommended for transactional support, with sources saying he is "flexible and great at satisfying often compressed timelines. You can trust his judgment and know that, with your business in mind, he will focus on all the right things." IAM Patent 1000 calls Frank Gasparo and his colleagues in New York "smart people who are great to be in the trenches with."

The fourth edition of IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Professionals was compiled following an extensive research process over a five-month period. IAM conducted nearly 1,500 interviews with numerous attorneys and in-house counsel to gather market intelligence on the leading players in the field. Recommended firms and individuals earned significantly positive feedback from peers and clients based on the depth of their experience, their market presence, and the level of work they perform.
