A pro bono team of Venable attorneys helped secure asylum in the United States for a client fleeing persecution in the Caribbean based on his sexual orientation. The client was connected to Venable by the City Bar Justice Center (CBJC). The Venable team included Teresa Biviano, David Katz, Ed O'Toole, Sandy Schlesinger, and Tiffany Williams.
CBJC increases access to justice by leveraging the resources of the New York City legal community. Drawing upon its relationship with the New York City Bar, the Justice Center provides legal assistance to those in need; mobilizes lawyers, law firms, corporate legal departments, and other legal institutions to provide pro bono legal services; educates the public on legal issues; fosters strategic relationships; and impacts public policy.
