Sandy Schlesinger handles a broad range of matters in the labor and employment space, including litigation, counseling, and internal investigations.  Sandy represents clients in the education, hospitality, healthcare, and financial services industries, among others.       

Sandy has experience in the following areas:

  • Defending clients in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies against allegations of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment
  • Defending clients in federal class and collective actions and in arbitrations against allegations of federal and state wage and hour law violations, breach of contract, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and unjust enrichment
  • Representing clients in restrictive covenant matters, negligence actions, and Article 78 proceedings
  • Advising employers regarding workplace practices and policies, employment and separation agreements, confidentiality agreements, and independent contractor classifications
  • Reviewing and drafting employee handbooks
  • Advising employers on federal, state, and local leave laws
  • Conducting investigations for educational institutions in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct, bullying, and violations of Title VI and Title IX

Representative Matters

Sandy’s work for firm clients has included:

  • Obtaining complete summary judgment dismissal of a federal class action lawsuit against a university for breach of contract, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and unjust enrichment
  • Obtaining complete dismissal from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of two charges of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment against a promotions company
  • Defending private schools in state court actions involving various negligence, civil assault, and civil battery claims, including drafting motions for dismissal of the actions
  • Defending a political campaign in federal class/collective action lawsuits involving alleged fraud, promissory estoppel, and federal and state wage and hour claims
  • Defending a food industry client in arbitrations involving federal and state wage and hour claims
  • Opposing an Article 78 Petition brought against a private school client in connection with the school’s decision to suspend a student
  • Conducting an internal investigation and drafting an investigation report for a university in connection with allegations that a dean created a hostile work environment for employees
  • Negotiating a settlement for a hospitality executive in a non-compete matter
  • Advising a FinTech company regarding its COVID-19 policies
  • Reviewing and drafting employee handbooks for nonprofit organizations
