Jane Baber focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and government investigations and enforcement actions, handling all stages of legal proceedings. Jane has wide experience defending clients against national consumer class actions. She also provides compliance counseling to clients in the consumer and advertising industries and regularly handles state and federal causes of action, with a focus on consumer protection issues. Jane represents both merchants and payment processors in disputes concerning withheld reserves and payment processing agreements. Her ability to clearly and concisely explain complex legal issues before sophisticated federal courts is an asset to clients.

Another large part of Jane's practice is representing and defending clients in federal and state attorney general investigations. She is well versed in handling matters related to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act, Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA), and state and federal autorenewal laws. She is also experienced in defending clients in matters involving the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), CAN-SPAM, and state anti-spam statutes, like California Business and Professions Code §17529.5. Jane works as a member of a team that takes a hands-on approach in the high-stress world of litigation, managing legal crises efficiently so clients can get answers and solutions in a timely and professional manner.

Before joining Venable, Jane gained courtroom experience as a judicial extern for Chief Judge Roger L. Gregory, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Richmond, Virginia, and for Judge John A. Gibney, Jr., U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia.
