The Chronicle of Higher Education quotes Jonathan Pompan on for-profit college lead generation

Venable partner Jonathan Pompan was quoted in an October 29, 2015 article in The Chronicle of Higher Education on lead generation as it relates to for-profit colleges. Lead generation is the practice of identifying or cultivating consumer interest in a product or service, and distributing this information to third parties. On October 30, the Federal Trade Commission will host a one-day workshop exploring the consumer protection issues raised by the practices of the lead generation industry, and what consumers and businesses should know and do to address them. Pompan will serve as a panelist during the workshop along with advertising industry representatives, consumer advocates, and government regulators.

"No amount of regulation, new rules, or best practices is going to stop a specific fraudster looking to make a quick buck," said Pompan. "But that's not what this should be about." He added that the FTC's workshop “presents an opportunity for regulators to learn about colleges' and advertisers' compliance efforts."
