WASHINGTON/BALTIMORE (October 5, 2005) - Forty Venable LLP lawyers, representing a cross-section of the firm's practice groups and offices, were selected by their peers for inclusion in the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.
Best Lawyers (www.bestlawyers.com) is a leading national benchmark of go-to counsel published by Woodward White Corp. The 2006 edition is based on an extensive peer-review survey of some 16,000 attorneys, resulting in more than 400,000 detailed evaluations of individual lawyers around the country.
For 15 of the 40 Venable attorneys named this year, their selection represents more than 10 straight years of recognition by Best Lawyers. Many of the other Venable lawyers named this year also have appeared on the list previously.
Attorneys chosen for inclusion in Best Lawyers are assessed according to their respective specialties. The latest edition covers 57 separate practice disciplines, including 25 new categories added this year. Seven Venable attorneys were recognized in these new practice areas, including two citations for firm chair Benjamin R. Civiletti:
- Corporate Governance and Compliance: Benjamin R. Civiletti; James J. Hanks, Jr.
- Mergers & Acquisitions: Thomas D. Washburne, Jr.
- White Collar Criminal Defense: Benjamin R. Civiletti; Michael Schatzow; William D. Dolan III; Carol Elder Bruce; Judson W. Starr
"We are extremely proud of the individual attorneys named to the list, especially knowing that the rankings reflect assessments by peers and competitors across the legal profession," said Venable managing partner James L. Shea, one of those recognized for the past 10 years.
"In addition, it's very gratifying to see the core group of Venable lawyers who have been included among Best Lawyers for more than a decade now joined by 20 additional colleagues. The selection is also noteworthy as a broad sweep across many of our diverse practice platforms."
