Automatically renewing subscription programs allow businesses to offer convenience to their customers, and they are a great option for holiday gifts for friends and family. However, new state laws passed this year have imposed increasingly stringent requirements on these programs. The Federal Trade Commission and state regulators have continued to bring enforcement actions involving automatic renewal programs, and private class action plaintiffs have jumped on the bandwagon. Not to be left out, certain card brands have also changed their requirements for specific types of autorenewal programs.
