Jessie Beeber

Jessie Beeber is an experienced litigator and chair of Venable’s Commercial Litigation New York Practice Group. Working across intellectual property (IP) and commercial litigation practice areas, Jessie is accomplished in all aspects of federal and state court litigation, mediation, and arbitration. Over the years, she has litigated many high-profile IP disputes, including those involving trademark, copyright, trade secrets, false advertising, and right of publicity issues. Jessie has handled financial, corporate, insurance coverage, and business tort cases nationwide. She has secured litigation victories for leading artists, brands, and publishers, and financial institutions, real estate partnerships, private equity firms, and their insurers.

Representative Matters

  • Representing a premier investment research firm in litigation against its former employee and his competing business venture for misappropriation of trade secrets and confidential information
  • Represented the estate of Robert Indiana (the artist best known for his famous LOVE design) in two multi-party litigations and an arbitration, all stemming from disputes over Indiana’s artistic legacy and the rights to sell his valuable works
  • Represented major sports and entertainment venues in their COVID-19 business interruption insurance recovery efforts
  • Represented real estate partnerships in litigation stemming from surviving partners’ exercise of buyback rights
  • Represented Companhia Energética Potiguar, a Brazilian operator of power plants, in its litigation against Caterpillar Inc., arising out of the malfunction of 144 generator sets manufactured by CAT; successfully opposed Caterpillar’s motion to dismiss for forum non conveniens and its summary judgment motion, leading to a favorable settlement shortly before trial
  • Represented a well-known music performer in litigation with a former manager
  • Represented J.K. Rowling and Scholastic against claims of trademark and copyright infringement stemming from the Harry Potter books
  • Represented Clorox (Fresh Step Litter) in a prominent comparative advertising dispute

  • Represented John Wiley & Sons in a series of copyright infringement lawsuits brought by photographers
  • Represented artist Allen Hirsch in a property damage trial
  • Represented the Tribeca Film Festival in a large-scale trademark infringement lawsuit against an infringer
  • Represented the Gatorade Company in litigation and NAD proceedings regarding comparative advertising claims
  • Represented Samsung Electronics America, Inc. in network challenges over consumer electronics products
  • Represented Employers Reinsurance Company in a dispute with MP3.com regarding coverage for copyright infringement claims
  • Represented the Margaret Mitchell Estate in a controversial copyright case against the author and publisher of The Wind Done Gone, a parody of Gone With the Wind
  • Represented the author and publisher of 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye against a copyright infringement claim brought by J.D. Salinger
  • Represented Suffolk Federal Credit Union in a significant insurance coverage claim against its fidelity insurer
  • Represented lenders and investors in connection with repurchase demands made by mortgage-backed securities issuers, underwriters, and monoline insurers
