Brian Tengel provides consumer privacy and data security guidance for clients in the advertising, media, financial services, and automotive industries, among others. Brian conducts policy monitoring, drafts legislative position papers, and advises clients on compliance with federal, state, and international laws and regulations, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In addition, Brian has experience counseling clients on matters involving the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), National Advertising Division (NAD), and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). This experience includes advising clients on advertising claim substantiation, pricing and sales claims, sweepstakes and promotions, and gift card and unclaimed property issues.
Prior to Venable, Brian graduated cum laude from University of Michigan Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Michigan Law Review. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan.
