As companies in virtually every industry find new ways to collect and analyze customer data, and regulators continually develop new guidance with increased scrutiny, Brian makes sure his clients realize their legal obligations in protecting valuable and sensitive customer information. He keeps clients informed of the rapidly changing legal landscape and proactively ensures that they understand the necessary steps to remain compliant with all federal, state, and international laws regulating data use and privacy. These include the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other omnibus state privacy laws, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), state biometric privacy laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), and state data breach notification laws. Brian draws from his significant experience advising businesses on consumer protection issues to advocate for his clients before government agencies, including the FTC and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
Brian also supports the firm's corporate practice by providing privacy advice and analysis in the context of deals, including through conducting due diligence in mergers and acquisitions and other corporate matters.
