Kathryn Marshall

Katie Timmons advises clients on rapidly changing legal developments related to privacy, data security, and transportation. Katie provides strategic counseling on privacy compliance, guides companies and organizations through regulatory investigations, and advocates on behalf of clients to support policy development. She provides tailored, risk-based compliance guidance on a full range of privacy laws and regulations, including state privacy laws, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA). With a focus on connected technology and the transportation sector, Katie also keeps clients up to date on the latest rules and regulations impacting cutting-edge technological developments.

Katie's transportation practice focuses on autonomous vehicles, where she provides counseling and engages policymakers to develop laws and regulations, including by providing testimony before state legislatures. She also handles enforcement matters before the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In her broader privacy practice, Katie helps clients in the adtech, transportation, financial services, and media sectors manage risk through product counseling and privacy program development.

Prior to joining Venable, Katie interned at the Department of Education, Office of the General Counsel, where she drafted motions and legal memoranda on a variety of issues. Previously, Katie served as chief of staff at a nonprofit policy organization, helping to coordinate campaign efforts while ensuring the organization remained compliant with lobbyist and IRS 990 reporting requirements.
