Construction Law: Project Controls

Venable’s Construction Law Group provides owners with sophisticated project-control services to help manage costs, monitor schedules, and ultimately protect the bottom line.

More than 25 years ago, our construction attorneys revolutionized the way legal counsel is used to keep projects on time and on budget. By going beyond a typical owner’s representative or construction project manager, we help protect our clients’ interests by providing realistic assessments of budgets and schedules, objective appraisals of critical project issues, and options for resolving disputes before they impede progress.

Working with owners of large projects in a variety of industries, including energy/utility, commercial, industrial, educational, hospital, sports, and the public sector, our team prepares contract documents, taking care to negotiate specific provisions on project controls that allow owners to track costs and schedule information. We go on to monitor, analyze, and report on those collected cost and schedule data points to help chart the direction of the project, control and manage change orders, avoid contractor claims, control costs, and keep development on schedule. While providing this independent oversight of a project’s budget and schedule, we also work in concert with client representatives to streamline the procurement and construction processes, helping to reduce legal and business expenses over a project’s lifetime.
